SUMMER STORM UPDATE FROM MONTGOMERY COUNTY
Tuesday, July 27, 2010 10 a.m.
The latest news follows:

Power Restoration Status:
• 107,000 Pepco customers remain without power in Montgomery County.
• To report power outages, call Pepco at 877-737-2662, Allegheny Power at 800-255-3443, or Baltimore Gas & Electric at 877-778-2222.
• To report “hot” or sparkling wires, especially those across roadways, call 911.

Traffic and Ride On:
• 103 traffic signals remain dark. Police officers are directing traffic at major intersections and temporary stop signs have been located at others.
• Treat all “dark” intersections as four-way stops. Stop – then proceed cautiously. This is critically important to ensuring vehicular and pedestrian safety.
• Fifty-five County roads remain blocked by fallen trees or downed wires.
• To report downed trees in the public right-of-way, call 3-1-1, or, if calling from outside Montgomery County, 240-777-0311.
• Ride On will operate tomorrow on a normal schedule. Expect some delays due to signal outages and detours. Check www.rideonbus.com for more information.

Shelters:
• One shelter is open at Richard Montgomery High School, 250 Richard Montgomery Drive in Rockville.

Recreation Programs/Pools:
• Montgomery County Recreation Department Summer camps, programs and activities will be held today, with the exception of programs held at Montgomery County Public Schools without power. • All County swimming pools, except the Montgomery Aquatics Center and Wheaton/Glenmont, are open today.
• Cabin John Ice Rink and the South Germantown Splash Park and Miniature Golf facility are open. The Cabin John and Wheaton miniature trains are closed, as is the Wheaton Carousel and also the Brookside Gardens and Locust Grove Nature Centers. Go to www.MontgomeryParks.org for a full list and updates.

Parks:
• Brookside Gardens and the Visitors Center is open. The Conservatory and Wings of Fancy Live Butterfly Exhibit are closed today. Visitors should avoid Glenallan Avenue between the Conservatory Entrance and the Visitors Center Entrance because of a downed tree.
• The following facilities are open and classes and programs will operate as scheduled: Cabin John Ice Rink, South Germantown Splash Park and Miniature Golf facility.
• These facilities are also open: the Wheaton Indoor Tennis Center, Pauline Betz Addie Tennis Center at Cabin John Regional Park, the Black Hill Regional Park boat rental facility, and the Park Permit Office in Silver Spring for regular business hours.
• The following facilities remain closed: Wheaton Ice Rink, Cabin John Miniature Train, Wheaton Miniature Train, the Ovid Hazen Wells Carousel at Wheaton Regional Park, and Locust Grove and Brookside Nature Centers.
