2008年8月より発足しましたNIH金曜会も、皆様のおかげを持ちまして前回11月5日で22回の開催を数えました。セミナー、懇親会ともに毎回多くの皆様にご参加頂いて活発にご交流頂き、我々幹事一同も感謝しております。
12月の金曜会はセミナーはお休みさせて頂き、懇親会のみ“忘年会2010”として馴染みの方も多いBethesdaの焼肉レストランSATSUMAにて開催させて頂きたいと思います。SATSUMAマネージャー様のご厚意により店内奥の座敷を貸切にさせて頂きました。木曜日の開催となりますが、多くの皆様のご参加をお待ち申し上げております。
なお座席に限りがございますので先着48名様までとさせて頂きますのでどうぞご了承下さい。参加ご希望の方は、どうぞお早めのお返事を頂けますようご協力お願い申し上げます。

共同で開催いたします、特別講演会"Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine in JAPAN"のお知らせをさせていただきます。

来たる11月22日に、日本の幹細胞と再生医療について、次の2名の講師をお迎えして特別講演会を行います。

Special Lectures  "Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine in JAPAN" Co-Sponsored by WIN, JST and JSPS

Washington Innovation Network (WIN), Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), and Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) will jointly organize a special lectures on the theme of "Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine in JAPAN."

Two specialists from Japan will give presentations on Japanese research trends and policies of stem cell and regenerative medicine, touching upon Japanese competitiveness in those fields in comparison with other nations.

4. Biography:

Short biography of Dr. Akihiro Umezawa:

Akihiro Umezawa is a Department Head and Chairman in Department of Reproductive Biology at National Research Institute for Child Health and Development. He received MD  from Keio University School of Medicine in 1985, and  PhD from Keio University Graduate School of Medicine in 1990. He served as an Associate Professor at Department of Pathology of Keio University School of Medicine until 2002. He also served as an adjunct Professor at Keio University and Seikei University. He received Henry Christian Memorial Award from American Federation for Clinical Research Foundation in 1993, and Kitasato Award from Keio University School of Medicinet in 1997. Dr. Umezawa's research focuses on stem cell-based therapy using induced pluripotent stem cells, embryonic stem cells, and mesenchymal stem cells.

Short biography of Dr. Tamami Fukushi:

Tamami Fukushi entered Nara Women’s University to have bachelor degree in physical education field, and she experienced advanced degree education in neuroscience field. After master’s degree in Primatology in Kyoto University Graduate School, she moved to the Department of Psychology of the graduate school in Hokkaido University and took Ph.D. (in Behavioral Science) in 1999. After 6 years postdoctoral experience in the Department of Neuroscience, University of Minnesota, she returned to Japan to join the Neuroethics Research Group at Research Institute of Science and Technology for Society (RISTEX), Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and in September 2008 she is hired by the Center for Research and Development Strategy of JST as a Fellow, doing science policy and research trend analyses. She is currently a member of international advisory board of Neuroethics (Springer) also an ethical committee member of the Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine.
