第60回金曜会のお知らせ
第60回金曜会（9月20日）のご案内です。今回はNIAAAの神田真司先生と、NIAIDの高川哲也先生に講演をして頂きます。
神田真司先生は東京大学大学院で助教をされており、現在NIAAAの小野富三人先生のラボに留学されています。今回のセミナーでは、脊椎動物の神経系をモデルとして、進化に伴う遺伝子の獲得過程についてお話して頂く予定です。
高川哲也先生は、NIAIDのDr. Warren StroberのラボでVisiting Fellowとして研究をされています。今回は、日本でも増加傾向にある炎症性腸疾患が発症するメカニズムについて、最新の知見をお話して頂く予定です。

小宮先生は、日本で医学部を卒業された後、米国研究留学、米国内科レジデンシーを経て、腫瘍内科のクリニカルフェローとして、NCI/NIHで3年間トレーニングを受けてこられました。

このたび、Action for Japan 0311では、復興支援のためのファンドレイジング、また政府・民間支援活動の現状報告を目的としたチャリティーパーティーを、下記の通り開催する運びとなりました。弊団体は、ジョンズホプキンス大学の医療従事者、研究者、学生を中心に、ボルチモア・ワシントンエリアの皆様に広くご支援いただきながら、長期支援の重要性、被災地の情報をお伝えすることをテーマに活動しております。今回のパーティー中には、福島県いわき市からのライブ中継もふまえ、より具体的に復興の様子を感じていただける予定です。

This year marks the 10th anniversary of an epoch-making incident in the history of Japan’s infectious disease control policies. Courts found that Japan’s Leprosy Isolation Policy (1907-1996) violated human rights against leprosy patients and families by enforcing it even after the establishment of chemotherapy. Japan had extended the policies to the Korean Peninsula and other colonial regions through 1945. Dr. Sase will explore the legacies of these policies, and illuminate implications for today’s infectious disease policies and human rights.
Eriko Sase, Ph.D. is a board member for the Global Health Research Center of Japan, and an adjunct professor at the Department of Global and Community Health, Graduate School of Medicine, the University of Tokyo. She is also an overseas researcher at the Japan Medial Association Research Institute. Recently, she was appointed to be the head researcher of the “Health and Human Security Project” by Japan Center for International Exchange. Dr. Sase, as the Director, established the Global Health Systems Program in the Master of Public Health Program at the Boonshoft School of Medicine in Wright State University. She was selected as a member of the Ohio Center of Excellence for Human-Centered Innovation, and of the Honor Society for International Scholars in Washington, D.C.

Short biography of Dr. Akihiro Umezawa:
Akihiro Umezawa is a Department Head and Chairman in Department of Reproductive Biology at National Research Institute for Child Health and Development. He received MD from Keio University School of Medicine in 1985, and PhD from Keio University Graduate School of Medicine in 1990. He served as an Associate Professor at Department of Pathology of Keio University School of Medicine until 2002. He also served as an adjunct Professor at Keio University and Seikei University. He received Henry Christian Memorial Award from American Federation for Clinical Research Foundation in 1993, and Kitasato Award from Keio University School of Medicinet in 1997. Dr. Umezawa's research focuses on stem cell-based therapy using induced pluripotent stem cells, embryonic stem cells, and mesenchymal stem cells.
Short biography of Dr. Tamami Fukushi:
Tamami Fukushi entered Nara Women’s University to have bachelor degree in physical education field, and she experienced advanced degree education in neuroscience field. After master’s degree in Primatology in Kyoto University Graduate School, she moved to the Department of Psychology of the graduate school in Hokkaido University and took Ph.D. (in Behavioral Science) in 1999. After 6 years postdoctoral experience in the Department of Neuroscience, University of Minnesota, she returned to Japan to join the Neuroethics Research Group at Research Institute of Science and Technology for Society (RISTEX), Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and in September 2008 she is hired by the Center for Research and Development Strategy of JST as a Fellow, doing science policy and research trend analyses. She is currently a member of international advisory board of Neuroethics (Springer) also an ethical committee member of the Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine.

4. Biography:
Short biography of Dr. Akihiro Umezawa:
Akihiro Umezawa is a Department Head and Chairman in Department of Reproductive Biology at National Research Institute for Child Health and Development. He received MD from Keio University School of Medicine in 1985, and PhD from Keio University Graduate School of Medicine in 1990. He served as an Associate Professor at Department of Pathology of Keio University School of Medicine until 2002. He also served as an adjunct Professor at Keio University and Seikei University. He received Henry Christian Memorial Award from American Federation for Clinical Research Foundation in 1993, and Kitasato Award from Keio University School of Medicinet in 1997. Dr. Umezawa's research focuses on stem cell-based therapy using induced pluripotent stem cells, embryonic stem cells, and mesenchymal stem cells.
Short biography of Dr. Tamami Fukushi:
Tamami Fukushi entered Nara Women’s University to have bachelor degree in physical education field, and she experienced advanced degree education in neuroscience field. After master’s degree in Primatology in Kyoto University Graduate School, she moved to the Department of Psychology of the graduate school in Hokkaido University and took Ph.D. (in Behavioral Science) in 1999. After 6 years postdoctoral experience in the Department of Neuroscience, University of Minnesota, she returned to Japan to join the Neuroethics Research Group at Research Institute of Science and Technology for Society (RISTEX), Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST) and in September 2008 she is hired by the Center for Research and Development Strategy of JST as a Fellow, doing science policy and research trend analyses. She is currently a member of international advisory board of Neuroethics (Springer) also an ethical committee member of the Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine.
